Laser precision specialists Specialised Laser Products (SLP) have partnered with CambridgeHOK after meeting at the Made in Yorkshire exhibition. SLP have produced multiple metal frames for the construction specialists and plan to work together in the future.

Established in 1995, SLP is the preferred company for laser cutting services in an array of different industries. Based in South Yorkshire, the firm carried out crucial work for Yorkshire based construction specialists CambridgeHOK. SLP produced multiple metal frames and components for HOK’s commercial glass houses. Ian MacKenzie, Head of Engineering at CambridgeHOK, said:

“We enjoy working with SLP, who always provide excellent service. It is important that CambridgeHOK supports local businesses so we can ensure we are putting money back into the local Yorkshire economy. It is also a lot more convenient to have suppliers in the local area as we can visit them easily if need be.”

While the project mentioned above is the most recent, SLP and CambridgeHOK have worked together in the past. The reconnection was made at the 2018 Made in Yorkshire exhibition where SLP Sales Manager Martin Cadet met with CambridgeHOK Director John Holland and former business Development Manager Jennifer Baskill. Martin said:

“We have worked with CambridgeHOK for years now, completing various projects for them such as light mounting and incubator work. We did quite a large project in the past with them that saw us install side fittings. With SLP’s fair lead times and competitive prices, we have become a good match for CambridgeHOK, and we have really enjoyed working with them.”

SLP and CambridgeHOK plan to continue working together, with an order placed just weeks ago. The partnership between the two firms highlights the importance of shorter supply chains supporting more local businesses and helping the environment. With only 30 miles between the two firms, SLP saves on cost by not using subcontractors and CambridgeHOK has a helping hand less than one hour away. Martin said:

“Made in Yorkshire helps manufacturers like ourselves find local suppliers and buyers, offering opportunities to continue these industry relationships. It is a great feeling when you know you are supporting local businesses and can get to them quickly if an issue arises.”

Ian concluded:

“Supply chains have been an issue in the past when goods are imported further afield, not forgetting that it can also be more costly. Being part of Made in Yorkshire comes back to localising our supply chains so we can work more efficiently and invest in employment in the local area.”
